One of our favourite things to do at Courtesy of the Artist is creating a custom piece that becomes part of your life and love story.

Commissioning a bespoke piece of jewellery is a truly unforgettable process for both the giver and recipient. This is a great way of gifting both a one-of-a-kind experience, and a tangible memory of the journey.
We've put together this handy guide through the custom process, so you can embark on the journey with confidence and ease.

STEP 1: Consultation

Begin with a private appointment with Nina Cueva, our co-director and resident gem curator where you'll share your vision and any other important details. You'll be able to select from Nina's exclusive collection of precious Australian sapphires and gemstones from the coveted Rare Earth Australian Made vault.
You'll next pick an artist to make the piece, our signature point of difference. Often the wearer knows which of our artists' work they connect with, or have a particular style they like. If not, don't fear - you can always gift a gemstone and embark on the design journey afterwards.

'Giving the stone is a really beautiful way of gifting something special, whether it be an engagement ring or celebrating a special occasion.’ says Nina. ‘Then I love helping to guide our clients through the design process, where the most important thing to us is giving you a beautiful piece of jewellery whilst having a memorable and joyful experience.'

STEP 2: Visualisation

Shortly after, the artist comes back with a 3D-rendered or hand-sketched design. We aim to make the drawings as realistic as possible so you know what you're getting from the beginning. From here you’ll either approve or get revisions on the design.

Step 3: Production

Once the design is agreed upon, the artist gets working on the physical piece.

Step 4: Delivery

You’ll receive a notification from us once the finished piece is ready.
There are three ways to do the final reveal: you can collect the piece from our store in the Strand Arcade, Sydney, come in together with the recipient and make it an event, or we can deliver it to your designated address anywhere in the world.

It can range from $1800 AUD to hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on the gemstones and materials used.
It's very much like asking us 'How long is a piece of string?'😉 which is why it's always best to come in for an obligation-free appointment.
I’d like to gift a custom piece. How will I know the recipient will like it?
If you're unsure, simply gift them a gemstone or a gift voucher – then you can embark on the design journey together.
I’m not located in Sydney, what are my options?
First we would love to chat to you over the phone and discuss your ideas. Then we can carry on our correspondence via WhatApp, video chat or email.
How do I know my custom piece will arrive safely?
We use trusted local and international couriers and also have separate transit insurance to ensure it arrives safely.
I’m concerned the ring won’t fit the recipient.
As part of our service we offer a complimentary resize for all rings.
What sort of aftercare options do you provide?
We offer complimentary yearly check-ups and cleaning. We can also arrange an independent valuation certificate for a small fee, so you can insure your jewellery against future damage, loss or if it is stolen. It’s worthwhile to remember that no jewellery is indestructible. We recommend that you remove your jewellery when doing gardening, exercising or any strenuous activity. All jewellery will experience some kind of wear and tear from daily wear.
